Learning at Mount Hutt College

Mount Hutt College has experienced and highly qualified teachers. Our school is a BYOD campus with wifi across the school site. 21st century learning is our emphasis with strong connections to the world around us ensuring relevance in learning. Practical fieldwork and interpersonal group skills are as important as theoretical learning. Students achieve in all areas of school life: academic, cultural, sports. leadership and citizenship.

In Years 11, 12 and 13 students study subjects from the New Zealand curriculum which are assessed for Levels 1, 2 and 3 of the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA). Year 13 students also prepare for University Entrance and Scholarships examinations. See information on senior subjects here.

In Years 7-10 students take a range of subjects which prepare them for the senior school where they start to select their subjects.

There is a wide range of subjects available including – Agriculture, Art (Painting, Photography, Design), Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Digital Technology, Design and Visual Communication, Economics, English,  ESOL, Fabric Design and Technology, Food and Nutrition, Geography, History,   Mathematics/Calculus, Mathematics/Statistics, Music, Outdoor Education, Physical Education, Physics ,Technology (Hard Materials), Tourism, Vocational Pathways.
