Mountains, lakes and rivers, what more could you wish for?
A location that billions around the world can only dream of, Mount Hutt College is situated in the idyllic Methven township, one hour southwest of Christchurch. Lying at the base of Mount Hutt, our school has access to some of the best ski fields and mountain bike tracks in New Zealand. With easy access to the Rakaia river and high country lakes, our students have a backyard that would rival any globally.
As a school we do all we can to leverage our amazing backyard.
Our mainstream curriculum programmes are developed with our local environment in mind whilst our Outdoor Education programme and Term 3 Snowsports programme are the envy of other schools throughout New Zealand.
Our wider extracurricular programme also maximises our local environment.
Our Outdoor Education club, Wednesday Recreation programme and Sports offered all align with the unique features of our wider environment and offer our learners an educational experience unlike any other, either nationally or globally.
Whilst our backyard is an outdoor enthusiasts dream playground, what really sets our community apart are the people in it.
We are incredibly well supported within Methven, our extended foothills community and more widely speaking the entire Mid Canterbury region. T
his support plays out in a variety of forms, whether it be the significant number of community volunteers that help with our programmes or the large number of businesses that provide vocational training to our learners and, in many cases, future pathways.
