Spirit

We can all use a bit of support at some time in our lives.
On this page, you can find information about services and support at school if you are experiencing challenges or would like someone to talk to.You can also access helpful wellbeing information and resources.

At school, we have a professional full time Counsellor and a part time Youth Mentor. There is also a Public Health Nurse available on a txt-to-book basis.

If it is an emergency or if you, or someone you know is at immediate risk, call 111.

Counselling is a confidential and safe place to find support. Having somebody to talk to is often the first (and hardest) step towards seeking help and making changes.

It’s really easy to contact me if you have any questions and/or to make a time to meet.

How to Make an Appointment

You are able to make an appointment with the Counsellor or Youth Mentor in the following ways:

  • email us directly,
  • ask your teacher, Kaiawhina, or Dean to contact us,
  • come to our office at lunchtimes or between classes,
  • speak to your parents/caregivers and they can contact us.

About counselling

Counsellors use skills, knowledge and therapeutic approaches to support students with:

  • identifying and working through issues/problems e.g. worry, stress, anger, low mood, self-harm, identity, self-esteem, relationship challenges, whānau concerns;
  • managing risk and keeping yourself safe;
  • coping with tough situations and preventing them from escalating;
  • enhancing interpersonal skills - communication, problem solving, decision-making;
  • developing self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and coping skills.

Counselling is confidential unless there is serious concern for your safety. A counsellor will not discuss details of a meeting with a student with anyone, without the student’s permission.

Students will be marked in KAMAR as an ‘I’ - (Internal Appointment) so they are not marked absent.
