New International Students for 2024
Our new students are from Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Fiji. We are very thankful to our wonderful host families, students, and teachers who go above and beyond to make our visitors welcome in our community and school.
As well as studying English with Mrs Saxon, and being immersed in our kiwi culture, the students will also take part in extra curricular activities. These include trips to Castle Hill, Mount Hutt, the Ōpuke Pools, meeting the Mayor, and visiting Ashburton Museum. A highlight is also our day trip to Christchurch which involves visits to Willowbank, the CBD and tram ride, and taking in a Crusaders rugby game.
By hosting international students, we give our own students authentic opportunities to learn about themselves, new cultures, and the world they live in. Hosting an exchange student gives your family and community the unique opportunity to learn about another culture and share food, holidays and traditions with each other. If you have children of your own in your home, this cultural exchange experience can help open their eyes to the world beyond their own neighbourhood and teach them important lessons about accepting differences and finding common ground.
We will continue to welcome both short and long term stays throughout 2024, anyone who may be interested in hosting a student can email our International Director Olé Wallis at international@mthutt.school.nz
