Uniform Expectations

Our Uniform presentation and expected standards are aligned with our PRIDE values and preparing our students for their adult futures. Students must endeavour to take care of personal property, clothing items, and jewellery (eg. authorised taonga), and the school will not take responsibility for the loss or damage of any of these items. All uniform items are to be clearly named. The intention of this uniform statement of expected standards, is to prepare students for their future careers. It is likely that they will need to comply with a range of expectations including workplace health and safety regulations. |

Requesting a Dispensation If a dispensation is being applied for, Mount Hutt College requires written application, as this is part of our key competency curriculum development for all students pertaining to aspects of self-management and relating to others. We expect that students will have clear conversations with their caregivers/parents and make appropriate measures to apply in writing to the Principal for uniform dispensations where appropriate. Valuable items of uniform should be worn respectfully. |

To meet Health and Safety regulations in various subjects: School shoes need to protect students’ feet i.e provide complete coverage of a sturdy material (be polishable). Students will be required to remove items of jewellery and tie up their hair as directed by their teachers. Students will be required to wear additional protective clothing or accessories e.g. eye or ear protection. |

Seasonal Variation Some of our uniform items have optional components, this means that during different seasonal terms, choices can be made. Any time of the year items Jacket – Any plain black waterproof jacket or MHC jacket (Only worn outside). Blazer – Black with school crest – compulsory from Year 11-13. Optional for any other year. |

TOP Blouse – short sleeved white with logo. Shirt - short sleeved white with logo. Jersey – regulation black with red/white trim. Vest - regulation black with red/white trim. |
BOTTOM Skirt – regulation. To be worn just above the knee. Trousers – black dress. Shorts – black, knee length. |
OTHER Shoes – black leather, lace up, t-bar or slip-on. Socks - (cotton option) plain white or black ankle length (no logos) to be worn with skirts or trousers or shorts. Socks – (merino wool option) knee high long black, wool regulation with red/white trim to be worn with shorts or trousers. Cap or Bucket Hat - regulation from Uniform Shop. Not worn inside. (No other logos except for school logo). |

General Standards of Presentation |

Hair / Makeup |
Coloured nail varnish is not to be worn with school uniform. Natural discrete makeup only. Neat and tidy hairstyles with hair clear of the face. Any coloured hair must be natural looking. Boys must be clean shaven. |

Jewellery |
A watch and two plain rings are permitted. A maximum of two small studs or sleepers may be worn in each ear. One necklace may be worn. No other jewellery is permitted unless proper application has been made to the Principal and consent given. Consent will be given only in exceptional circumstances and with special provisions (see exemption) |

Undergarments |
All singlets, thermal tops and t-shirts worn under uniform clothing must be plain white. Long sleeved shirt/skivvies not to be worn under short sleeved school shirts. |

|
Uniform exemption |
The uniform must be worn correctly at all times. If there are any problems, the student should have a diary note from a parent which clearly explains the reason for incorrect uniform in order to be given a temporary exemption. The student should show this note to their kaiāwhina at the morning manaaki or assembly. When the exemption is for up to 3 days and for an acceptable reason then the kaiāwhina will sign the diary to give the exemption. The kaiāwhina will refer the student to the Dean if an exemption is requested for a longer time period or if no acceptable reason is provided. The Dean will issue a uniform pass for the student to carry if the exemption is approved. Whole year exemptions are only available in exceptional circumstances. Requests for these should be directed to the Principal via the Principal’s Secretary [email protected]. These will normally only be considered when an item has special cultural/ spiritual significance to a student. |
