Spirit of Adventure 2024
The adventure started with a 5:15 am departure from MHC though one member of the group had a slight delay as they got their am and pm times confused! Once the whole crew had arrived we caught our flight to Auckland and had a couple of hours to explore.
After a quick trip up the Sky Tower we boarded the Spirit of New Zealand. On board were groups from St Margaret’s, Hamilton Boys and Orewa College as well as the 10 students from MHC. It was a fun trip with lots of new skills learnt, especially tying knots and putting up sails. We were lucky to have a great crew and group of schools to be away with.
Some highlights were:
- Experiencing a huge pod of dolphins swimming up beside the boat as well as 4-5 whales further out.
- Overcoming our fears to climb up the mast
- Rafting into some local islands for beach games, walking and challenges
- Loads of ocean swimming including jumping off the bowsprit and the rope swing
We arrived back in port on the 4th June but not before a quick trip under the Auckland Harbour Bridge. A tired group of students arrived back at MHC but everyone agreed it was an amazing opportunity.
Thanks to Mr Millichamp and Mr Houston for all their work organising and accompanying us, everyone who supported our fundraising and the amazing crew from Spirit of Adventure. If you get the chance to be part of a journey we would absolutely recommend it.
