Lockdown Procedure
01 Apr 2025
In assembly recently, students were reminded of our procedure for a lockdown situation.
Students heard the alarm sound so they were aware of its difference to an evacuation siren. We do not practice lockdown scenarios.
In the event of a lockdown students must:
Please do not jeopardise your own safety, and ours, by trying to come on site. We understand this goes against your instincts as whānau and, will be difficult. However, you will not be able to access your child until the ‘all clear’ is given.
In the event of a lockdown, we will communicate via text and email with whānau and community as soon as we are able to with instructions.

In the event of a lockdown students must:
- If they are inside, they should remain inside, away from doors and windows.
- If they are outside of school buildings, they need to get to a staffed room.
- If they are on their way to school - for example coming from the bus or arriving late to school - and they hear the siren, it may be better for them to return to where they came from and seek advice from an adult. e.g. bus yard, home, nearby business
- NOT communicate with anyone outside the room they are in. This includes anyone off site such as friends and family. They may be required to hand any communication devices in to the staff member in the room.
- Follow all instructions given by staff and/or emergency services personnel until an ‘all clear’ signal is given by staff or emergency services.
