Our Stories 2024

Our Stories 2024

Looking for a way to involve yourself locally? New to town? Here for the ski season?

Mount Hutt College are once again holding their cultural/ diversity event involving students from
across the school, a great community event.

“Our Stories” will focus around the learning being covered within the Year 7, 9 and 10 Social
Science classes which are exploring the local history and cultures within our region and New
Zealand’s past. By investigating and understanding the past we can move forward.

Taking the time to unpack the way things were used, why buildings in our town exist and the hard mahi that
has gone into creating our community encourages questioning and appreciation. Our own
ancestry, Whakapapa, is important in understanding; where we have come from, the people
who have influenced our pathways and made decisions that have altered our position today, and
what sacrifices have been made.

Year 10 English classes are also sharing their amazing personal journey stories, which proved
very popular reading last year. Student work will be complimented by stalls and performances
showcasing our varied cultural groups from our area.

Parents, caregivers and community members will be welcome to join in. Food from our different cultural school groups will be
available and various items created by the Year 13 YES programme will also be for sale so
bring along your cash.

The hall is now heated so we can guarantee a warm and inviting environment!

“OUR STORIES” Thursday 23 May Open 4:30pm until 7 pm.

We would love to see you there.
