World Down Syndrome Day

Last week, Mount Hutt College came together to participate in the Lots Of Socks campaign to help raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day held on Friday 21st March. Students came to school in full school uniform however wearing their funkiest, mismatched pair of socks.
Why socks you may ask? This is because a pair of odd socks looks relatively the same as the karyotypes of the Down Syndrome chromosomes, hence why it’s a perfect item to help raise awareness. To add some competition, each year group gathered in our school hall for judging to which prizes were awarded to the winners of the following categories: Most colorful, most crazy and most unique. House points were also awarded, adding to the score for their overall house point total that will be tallied at the end of the year. Not only did prizes stop there!
Our Big Buddy, Little Buddy Ice cream social was a perfect time for our buddies to get together and connect over some delicious ice cream supplied by our Social Committee. We saw some awesome sock duo’s and let’s say the judging was definitely a challenge.
Thank you to everyone who made this event possible and those who participated in raising awareness!
