What’s been happening in the Agriculture classes - Term one
A number of trips and training days took place in term one and in the holidays.
Level Three Agriculture class went on a field trip to a Linseed field just outside of Methven for their Agribusiness assessment. They learnt how Bio Oils New Zealand take the linseed crop and turn it into oil to be sold by their Totally Kiwi brand. Some students decided to try some freshly extracted oil and some of the linseed flake left over from the extraction process.
Level Two Agriculture class went on a field trip to South Pacific Seeds (SPS) for their Agribusiness assessment. They learnt about what future-proofing influences affect SPS. After some learning in the boardroom, the class got a full walkthrough of the dressing plant, field department, packing area and seed laboratory.
In the holidays, students from both level 3 classes had the opportunity to learn to use a chainsaw safely. They learnt about the correct safety gear to wear, the safety features on the chainsaw and how to clean the saw and how to maintain it. They now have to practice this skill a number of times more before their assessment at the end of term 3.
