First Aid Course

The first of the Careers Department events for the year was the First Aid Course. This was held on Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st January. All year 12 and the Opuke Innovation Hub students were invited to attend. Students needed to complete both days of training to gain their Comprehensive First Aid Certificate.
A large number of our students play sports, work on farms or are in workplaces after school or on the weekends so these skills will help to give students more confidence in how they respond in emergencies and may help to increase their employability opportunities. This course also helped to meet the aims of Mount Hutt Colleges student ‘Growth Profile’. For each of our learners where we are striving to produce young people who demonstrate Skills for life, are Thinkers, Active, Relational and are Self aware, (STARS for short).
Students had a lot of fun catching up with friends after the school holidays, role playing, learning how to respond in emergency situations and applying bandages on each other. They learnt how to provide basic first aid, manage first aid in emergency situations and provide basic life support. Seventy-two students were successful in gaining their certificates.
