Courtney Duncan - Professional Motocross Rider
Thanks to Miss Helem, we had Courtney Duncan come and speak at assembly. Courtney has progressed her passion into a profession - becoming the World Women's Motocross Champion 4 times.
She has travelled for her sport all around the world, and spoke of highlights in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
Courtney Duncan is a professional motocross rider from New Zealand and is a four-time Women's Motocross World Champion. She secured the title in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, making her one of the most dominant riders in the history of the FIM Women's Motocross World Championship (WMX). She grew up in Dunedin, New Zealand, around motocross, with her family heavily involved in the sport. From a young age, she demonstrated a natural talent for motocross and began competing in local races. Her rise through the ranks was rapid, and she quickly gained recognition as one of New Zealand's top riders.
Her consistent performance, technical skill, and ability to handle tough competition have made her a standout figure in the world of motocross. Courtney's impressive career has made her an inspiration for many aspiring female motocross riders worldwide.
We were lucky enough to have Courtney Duncan come to Mount Hutt College to speak at the assembly on Monday 3rd March. Courtney ran a local training session with some local motocross racers, on Sunday 2nd March. She was then invited to come to Mount Hutt College to speak at assembly. The Mount Hutt Motocross riders were very excited to get a photograph taken with the World Champion as well as our motocross staff. Listening to Courtney speak was an inspiration to all our young students.
Courtney Duncan has been an important ambassador for women’s motorsport, not just in motocross but also in promoting gender equality in sports. She has proven that women can compete at the highest levels in a male-dominated sport. Her successes have motivated other female athletes in motorsports and beyond.
Courtney talked about setbacks she has experienced with her results and injuries changing the timeline of her goals. Through this she learned patience first and foremost, but also realised that everything presents an opportunity and through patience she could reset and refocus on what she needed to do to achieve her goals.
It was an awesome opportunity to host someone who has achieved so highly through demonstrating attributes and values parallel with those we have in our Growth Profile and PRIDE values.
A big thank you to the King Family for inviting Courtney Duncan to Methven and allowing her to come to Mount Hutt College to continue to inspire our Motocross riders, and young students with her busy schedule talking at “ An evening with the stars” a fundraising event for their son at Christchurch Boys High School.
