Yr 12 Peers Support and Leadership Day 2025

Our brand new Manaaki Stars programme opened with an energising and reflective series of short and challenging activities designed to break down shyness and consolidate closer relationships for learning and leadership. It gave our brand new Year 12 students, fresh from Year 11 and palpably nervous about the year ahead, an opportunity to get to know each other a little better in a less formal setting and to recognise the many differences that make us a unique and interesting group.

Part of the goal of the day was to introduce key concepts and the first three topics of the Peer Support Programme: Getting to Know You, Orientation to School, and Building the Group. During Manaaki Stars in Term 1 everyone will complete a further two topics (Communication and Cooperation). Students can then choose to continue with training to become Peer Support Leaders, or explore other leadership pathways.

Thank you to the Year 12 team (JS, CW, CS and PW) who trained for, planned and facilitated the day, and to Mrs Steph Tantau for filming some of our activities and letting us loose in the Library. Also a big thank you to Methven Resort for the yummy lunch!
