Academic Achievement Assembly
Mount Hutt College proudly celebrated the remarkable academic achievements of its Year 12 and 13
students on Monday, the 3rd of March. We celebrated and recognised those learners who had
earned their Level 1 and 2 Ōpuke Awards, for achieving Merit endorsements in their 2024 NCEA
programs.
This recognition highlighted the hard work and dedication of these students throughout the year. An
impressive 19 of the 36 award recipients were further honoured with full Academic Colours, a
premier award signifying that they had each achieved their NCEA Level 1 or 2 qualification with over
50 credits at Merit or Excellence, including at least 30 at the Excellence level. We congratulate these
students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and who also serve as an
inspiring group of role models for students to aspire to.
Our Principal, Mr Saxon then addressed our assembly, highlighting the exceptional performance of
the senior students in the previous year. It was in recognition of the fact that in almost all areas, we
had surpassed similar schools nationally. He commended our students who completed NCEA
assessments in 2024, particularly those achieving Merit and Excellence endorsement.
Mr. Saxon further emphasised the critical role of the Co-requisite Literacy and Numeracy
assessments in achieving NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3, encouraging all students to strive for excellence in
these foundational skills. He outlined the requirements for each NCEA level, including the 20 credits
from the Co-requisite assessments and the 60+ credits from chosen subjects. He also detailed the
University Entrance requirements, stressing the importance of 14 credits in three approved subjects,
and 10 Literacy and 10 Numeracy credits. Mr. Saxon's address provided valuable information for
students and parents as they navigate the NCEA pathway.
Mr. Saxon underscored the "Triple AAA&" — Attendance, Attitude, and Achievement—emphasising
the direct link between consistent school engagement, a positive learning attitude, and academic
success. He encouraged students to embrace these principles as they continue their academic
journey.
The celebration concluded with parents, staff, and students enjoying refreshments provided by the
school's dedicated PTA. This provided a wonderful opportunity for the Mount Hutt College
community to connect and celebrate the student's accomplishments together.
