Powhiri 2025
Every year we begin the school calendar with the Whole School Pōwhiri. While the weather did not co-operate, and we needed to pivot to the gym, this did not dampen spirits. Our new Year 7 cohort, along with all new students in all year levels and our new staff, were welcomed with a rousing haka from our Year 11, 12 and 13 students.
Head Student Sarah Reeve spoke on behalf of the student body, where she quoted the whakatauki 'Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa - let us keep close together, not wide apart'. It speaks about the importance of connection and keeping strong relationships, and it was a perfect choice for the pōwhiri. It is our hope that students feel connected to this place, and to our people, as they continue on their school journey.
Mr James List spoke on behalf of the manuhiri, and Mr Saxon wrapped up the occasion by addressing the school and introducing the new staff. We are thrilled with such a positive start to the year, despite the weather, and look forward to the richness our new students and staff will add to our kura.
