Girls Tramping Club

Tramping Club

From the 24th to 25th May, a group of girls consisting of Sarah Reeve, Stella Hamilton, Bree Muir, Maddie Deller, Kate Ferguson-Cooke, and Lexi Hooker set off on an overnight adventure on the Redcliffe Valley Track. The group of girls (alongside Miss Hawthorn and John Hooker) stayed in Tribulation hut for the night, with a few in tents.

The Redcliffe Valley Track is located in the Redcliffe Conservation Area, within the Mt Hutt range, and part of the larger Hakatere Conservation Park. This was the first trip of our newly formed girls' tramping group, with hopefully a few more to come over the remainder of the school year. The main goal of this group is to get more girls involved in the outdoors and exposed to our beautiful backyard.

Along the way, the girls walked over varied terrain, which included rock hopping, stream crossings, hill climbing, and an open, flat section after reaching the saddle (with great views of the surrounding mountains).

Overall, the trip was a huge success, due to perfect weather conditions and many laughs shared throughout the journey.

Huge appreciation for Miss Hawthorn and John Hooker for giving up their weekend and allowing the mission to go ahead!
