The academy, dedicated to giving students practical skills in the trades, recently saw its students cleaning out a shed and framing a new wall
as part of their first project of the year. The exercise, which combined both teamwork and technical skills, gave students the opportunity to work together and apply practical skills that will be learned in the classroom to real-world tasks.
To enhance their learning further, students also visited David and the team at Hammer Hardware, where they received a valuable lesson on the differences in building materials. The trip was a perfect opportunity for students to interact with industry professionals and learn about the tools and materials that will be used
throughout their studies. The visit also came with a thoughtful gesture, as the students were given a selection of tradies’ tools to help them through the year, allowing them to hit the ground running.
“We’re excited to support the Ōpuke Innovation Hub students,” said David from Hammer Hardware. “It’s important to help equip the next generation of tradespeople with the right tools and knowledge, and we’re happy to be a part of their journey.”
A special thanks is also in order for the team at Stoney Creek, who supplied the new OIH uniforms. The students’ new polos, emblazoned with the Ōpuke Innovation Hub logo, made a big impression and helped foster a sense of pride and unity within the group.
The Ōpuke Innovation Hub Trades Academy is paving the way for students interested in a career in the trades, offering them valuable skills, industry knowledge, and real-world experience. With their first project underway, the future is looking bright for the young tradespeople of Ōpuke.
