MHC Dance Showcase – A Night to Remember

Preview Dance Showcase

On Friday, 7 November, Mount Hutt College Dance held its first-ever Dance Showcase. The evening featured dancers from Year 7 through to Year 11 performing a wide range of dance genres. We are incredibly proud of all our dancers and all they have accomplished this year, not only in their on-stage performances, but also in rehearsals, in the way they supported one another, and in how they conducted themselves. Their resilience over the past few weeks, especially when several team members withdrew at the last minute, was outstanding.

Throughout the year, we have witnessed tremendous growth in our dancers, new skills mastered, new friendships formed, and a noticeable increase in confidence across every performer. Dance is never just about perfecting steps, it is about teamwork, creativity, and perseverance. Our students demonstrated all of these qualities with enthusiasm and maturity.

A number of memorable moments stood out on the night. Miss Dickson, our MC for the evening, delighted the audience with dance trivia and entertaining dance challenges. The crowd erupted with excitement as the Junior Pom Pom group performed “ I See Red,” taking the stage with energy and confidence. Another highlight was Billy Drake came out as Slim and took the stage, followed by Miss H’s dramatic entrance as the detective bursting through the curtains in her pursuit to find Slim.

This event would not have been possible without the dedication of our incredible support team. A huge thank-you goes to Colleen Beatty, who managed the costume changes. This weas impressive as the dancers changed costumes for every item. Special thanks also to Seb Booth and Charles Clark for volunteering their time to run the sound and lighting, ensuring each performance was showcased at its best. We are grateful to Mrs Lara Burke and Michelle for coordinating backstage movement, guiding dancers on and off stage, and keeping the running order seamless. Thank you as well to Mrs Kirsty Saxton for capturing the evening with her amazing photography.

To our senior dancers, thank you for being such strong role models throughout the year to our younger dancers. Thank you for bringing your enthusiasm and energy to every class and rehearsal. Watching you all grow as dancers and as individuals has been one of the highlights of 2025.

Finally, we extend our sincere appreciation to the parents and Whānau for your ongoing support , from helping our dancers with hair, makeup, costumes, and transport, to cheering loudly from the audience. Your involvement makes all of this possible.

We cannot wait to see what 2026 brings for MHC Dance.
