U15 Rugby Tournament

The Mount Hutt College U15 rugby team attended the Rural Livestock U15 Co-Ed Rugby tournament in Oamaru from the 25th to the 27th of August.
The group of 21 boys were up against St Kevin's College, Wakatipu HS and Lincoln HS in their pool. The tournament begin for the boys on Monday with a morning game against a big St Kevin's team. The Mount Hutt boys defended the bigger boys with vigour and came away with a 28-26 win. The afternoon game saw us play Lincoln HS , who had also won their first game. This game was much tighter with Mount Hutt taking out the game 7-5 and two wins from two to put us top of the table with a game to play.
A 9am game on Tuesday morning and a few sick boys meant we started slowly against Wakatipu HS, winning this game would mean the team would be top of Pool A and go through to the quarter finals. The boys were able to hold the lead and win another close game 22-21. The afternoon game was a quarter final against Hillmorton HS and a chance to go through to the more favourable semi-final. The boys produced their best game of the tournament so far winning 48-17. This put us through to the semi-final against Central Southland on Wednesday morning.
Another rough night of sickness for some of the boys meant that again the team took a while to get into the game, but once they got going they produced some outstanding rugby to win the semi-final 34-12. Off to the final against Ashburton College, the afternoon game was played in warm conditions, and the game see-sawed with both teams scoring some outstanding tries, unfortunately though there could only be one winner and that was Ashburton College, taking out the game 40-31.
The Mount Hutt players represented the school with Pride and displayed the school values throughout the week . Well done to Liam Clark, PJ Coetze and Ivan Heneghan who were named in the Tournament team and PJ being named team MVP.
A huge thanks to the Garage Gym and Ballance Methven for supporting the team and also to Mr Houston, Leyton Blackwell and Mr Campbell for their coaching, management and support throughout the tournament.
