Everyday Matters
At MHC, we stand by the Ministry of Education’s message that Every Day Matters because regular attendance is the foundation for your child's success—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Research clearly shows that students who attend school regularly feel a stronger sense of belonging, maintain better mental health through established routines, and are far more likely to achieve their NCEA goals. Missing even small amounts of school can build up and leave gaps in learning that create stress and disconnect students from their peer groups.
Under our Stepped Attendance Response approach, we monitor attendance closely not to judge, but to identify patterns early so we can reach out and offer support. If you are facing challenges getting your child to school, please contact your child's Kaiāwhina or Dean so we can work together to remove barriers.
Absence notification messages are sent to caregivers of students absent without explanation each morning. Please ensure you reply with a reason for your child's absence so we can ensure absences are coded correctly.
You can see summaries of attendance each week in automated emails from Kamar, or anytime by logging in to the Kamar Parent Portal here: https://mthutt.school.
It is best to plan holidays, treats and appointments outside of school hours as much as possible. If your child has an upcoming, planned absence, information on what your responsibilities as parents are can be found here https://mounthuttcollege.co.
