Leader's Letters
As many of you know, this term's PRIDE focus is Diversity but what is Diversity. Diversity is not just about being different. It is about adapting, accepting, and acknowledging differences. Choosing to be diverse is a step in personal growth, and it is a skill that can help us support others as they grow.
Our society needs diversity. Without it, we would become bland—too similar, too predictable, and lacking the variety that makes life interesting. If everyone was the same, there would be no excitement, no new ideas, and no opportunity to learn from one another.
We can see the importance of diversity in various places throughout our school, like in a sports team where everyone plays the same position, or a basketball team where everyone wants to be the captain. The team wouldn’t work. It would fall apart because every player has different strengths. Some are fast, some are strong, some are strategic, and some are great at encouraging others. When a team accepts these differences and works together, that's when success happens.
This week, I challenge you all to look for the differences in your peers, and to recognize the differences in yourselves that show your individuality. Because that skill—accepting and celebrating diversity—is one that can change lives. It gives us a new perspective and reminds us of the power of the word diversity.
Thank you,
Max Rooney
