Leader's Letters
This term, our PRIDE value is Respect, and I think it’s one of the most important values we have as a school community. Respect isn’t just about following rules or being polite to teachers it’s also about how we treat the people around us every day.
The definition of respect is showing consideration and valuing other people, their ideas, and the environment around us. I think that’s important because respect isn’t something you only show when it’s easy or when someone’s your best friend. Real respect is shown in how we act all the time, even in small moments that other people might not notice.
A lot of the time, respect is shown in really simple ways. Things like listening when someone’s speaking, helping someone out if they’re having a rough day, including people instead of leaving them out, or even just saying thank you to teachers and staff. Respect can also mean looking after our school environment, cleaning up after ourselves, and representing our school well both in and out of school. Those little actions might not seem like much, but they can genuinely make someone’s day better.
Respect also affects the kind of environment we create at school. When people feel respected, they feel more comfortable, more confident, and more willing to get involved. It makes classrooms better to learn in, sports teams stronger, and honestly just makes school a nicer place to be for everyone.
I think respect is also about understanding that everyone’s going through different things that we might not know about. Being patient, thinking before we speak, and treating others the way we’d want to be treated can make a massive difference. Sometimes the smallest bit of kindness or respect can stay with someone for a really long time.
As we go through this term, I’d encourage everyone to think about the small ways they can show respect each day whether that’s towards classmates, teachers, support staff, friends, or even people you don’t usually talk to. Even small actions can help create a more positive school community for everyone.
