Year 8 Field Trip

Preview Yr 8 Field Trip

Last week our Year 8 students took a trip to Staveley as part of their ‘Producers and Consumers’ topic.  The students have been learning about the environmental and ethical choices our local businesses make.  We visited Staveley Store, Southern Alps Honey, Blue Earth Botanical Skin Care, and the Staveley Historical and Geological Centre.  We learnt about how these local businesses use local products and services, to ensure their money remains in the local community.  Students saw firsthand the "multiplier effect"—how buying a coffee at the Staveley Store or honey from the hives keeps the local economy thriving.  At the Historical Centre, we looked back at how early settlers relied entirely on local production, comparing it to how businesses operate today.

A huge thank you to the teams at Staveley Store, Southern Alps Honey, Blue Earth, and the Historical Centre for opening their doors, sharing their expertise, and inspiring our future entrepreneurs.

“I liked tasting the honey, it was very very sweet. It was cool seeing how all of the machinery worked.  When I first walked into Blue Earth, I got a whiff of straight scents of soap.  The Staveley Store was a blast, I had a coke with a ham and cheese croissant, a pie and a sausage roll. I liked visiting the places with Miss Hellem.” Kyan

“My highlight was The Staveley Museum because I loved looking at all the history of the Staveley area.”  Sophie

“I really enjoyed learning about how they make the soaps at Blue Earth.  I really liked the amazing smells there.”  Cayleigh

“I liked the food at the Staveley Store, I had a brownie. It had a good texture and it tasted delicious.”  Toby

“I think Jessie at The Staveley Store was really interesting. She had an amazing story about how she got into baking and cooking.  I had a croissant with ham and cheese, it was amazing and the perfect temperature.”  Xavier
