MHC Active - Skatepark Sports!
Mount Hutt College continues its exciting Wednesday Active Programme this term. This weekly
event offers students a wide array of engaging activities, moving beyond the traditional classroom
setting to promote physical and emotional well-being.
Every Wednesday afternoon, the school transforms into a hub of diverse recreational activities.
Students can choose from an impressive selection, including Snowsports for Term 3, taking full
advantage of Mount Hutt Opuke on our doorstep. Beyond the slopes, this term the programme
also has activities such as crafts, gym classes, badminton, technology with our MHC RAD Club,
walking group and basketball. This variety not only caters to different passions, but also
encourages students to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new.
In Term 2, we had students choose Skatepark Sports as their option, where they could practise
their scooter or skateboard skills at our local Methven Skatepark. On rainy days, the students were
also working on recycling and refurbishing scooters to give to people in our community. One of
these scooters (pictured here) was sponsored for a custom paint job by Methven Panel and Paint.
Skatepark group students - Xavier Saxon and Harley MacNee said the silver and red were a unique
combination, and it turned out really well. MHS is very thankful to Methven Panel and Paint for
their support.
The Wednesday Active Programme is more than just an opportunity for physical activity; it's a vital
component of Mount Hutt College's broader vision to nurture well-rounded individuals. By
providing these diverse opportunities, we aim to develop students' "Body / Tinana" alongside their
"Mind / Hinengaro" and "Spirit / Wairua." The programme underscores the importance of
participation, teamwork, and sportsmanship, fostering valuable life skills.
