Pi Day
At Friday Second Lunch March the 13th, the Mt Hutt College community gathered to participate in the annual event of Pi day. Ran by the Academic Committee, this sweet and number filled event involved participants reciting as many digits of Pi (3.14159 etc) that they could remember. All in celebration of this dramatic and ostentatious number. This proved to be an exciting, invigorating, fun, unbelievable challenge for all year levels!
Digits poured out of each students’ mouth like a pillowy black and white avalanche. For some, the order of the small little symbols seemed to strut out with a casual flow and cadence; creating Pi up to 100+ digits! A truly impressive feat to accomplish with only one chance at recitation.
As Pi day was rapidly approaching its closure, the Academic Committee vigorously counted, tallied and cross referenced the data to find the Pi Day Champion (the person who recited the largest amount of Pi). As well as preparing the classic dish of whipped cream and sprinkles to serve as the piece of resistance to the whole event. The classic colourful confetti pie that would be served by the 2026 Pi Day Champion - Dominic Ubales who recited a whopping 191 digits - to Mr Tantau's face. Thanks to Mr Tantau for once again being prepared to be pi-ed.
What a truly fun, mathematical and sweet toothed day to finish off another week at Mt Hutt College!
