Mount Hutt College Rugby Stars Shine at South Island Tournaments
During the recent school holidays, from the 4th to the 6th of October, Mount Hutt College was proudly represented on the rugby field by several talented students across two major South Island tournaments.
An impressive lineup of 13 Mount Hutt College students was selected for the Mid Canterbury U16 rugby team to compete in the South Island U16 Rugby Tournament. Competing in the Bottom 8 section, the team put on a masterclass performance throughout the three-day event.
-
Day 1: Mid Canterbury got off to a flying start, dominating their opening match against West Coast U16 with an astonishing 104–0 victory.
-
Day 2: The semi-final against Otago Country proved to be a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat battle. In a tense, hard-fought match, Mid Canterbury scored on the final whistle to clinch a dramatic 40–36 win and secure their spot in the final.
-
Day 3: Mid Canterbury capped off an incredible tournament by defeating North Canterbury 59–19 in the Bowl Final to take out the title!
In addition, the U18 South Island Girls Tournament in Timaru featured strong representation from our school community. Five past and present Mount Hutt College students took to the field for the Aoraki Girls team. They put in a fantastic effort across a competitive schedule of matches, claiming impressive victories over Southland, Tasman, and Otago, while dropping tough matches against both Canterbury U18 Girls teams.
A huge congratulations to all our players for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding sportsmanship. You have made Mount Hutt College and the Mid Canterbury region very proud!
